Stoke Prior First School, Bromsgrove

Celebrating Our 21st Birthday!

Why is our school celebrating

it's 21st Birthday?

There has been a school in Stoke Prior since 1872.  The school on Shaw Lane, bulged at the seams during the 1960s and an annex was built in Ryefields Road.  The annex was also seen as the first stage of a replacement building and plans were made to demolish the Shaw Lane site.  In 1972, 60 pupils were taught in Shaw Lane and 130 younger pupils in Ryfields Road.

The Shaw Lane site has still not been demolished but the second stage development at the Ryfields Road site did take place, and this "new" school was opened on 13 June 1987 by the local MP, Hal Miller -  21 years ago!

Bingo

One of the events to raise money on the night was a game of  Bingo, these were just a few of the 140 guests who had their fingers crossed to win a weekend away for 2.

Cutting the Cake

After speechs and a raising of glasses our Head Teacher, Jan Evans and The Chair of the School Association, Julia Hickman, cut a commemorative cake made by one of our colleagues, Miss Leary.

Dancing the Night Away

2 of our TAs, Mrs Vipond and Mrs Stephens get ready to dance the night away, the music being provided by

Soul Trader.

A Very Big Thank You!

Our Head teacher, Jan Evans with 2 of the main event organisers, Jo Reynolds and Becky Hollingworth.

A huge thank you to all of the members and friends of the School Association who helped to make this such a fantastic evening.

The £4000 raised will go a long way to providing a new stage and extra outdoor equipment for all of our pupils.

  Tree Planting Ceremony

Webbs of Wychbold Garden Centre kindly donated a tree for us to plant to celebrate our 21st birthday.  For those green fingered gardeners it is a Crataegus- Crimson Cloud.

We were joined by the Chairman of Webbs, Mr Edward Webb and our local MP, Julie Kirkbride who helped 2 of our

Eco Warriors to ensure the tree was firmly planted!
